Enrico Niemann
Enrico Niemann – Untitled (Detail), 2008, Courtesy of the Artist
Enrico Niemann studied fine art at the Bauhaus University in Weimar. His works are part of numerous private and public collections, including the Collection of Modern Young Art in Frankfurt/Oder, the East German Savings Bank Foundation, and the collection of the Bauhaus University in Weimar. He has received scholarships at the Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf, work grants from the states of Thuringia, Brandenburg, and the Kunstfonds Bonn, as well as travel grants.
In his work, he explores the connections between space and surface. He constructs and shapes a model on which the painting processes take place, creating thin layers of paint, which are then transferred to paper/foil. This creates topographical areas of color that grow into the space and ultimately unfold like a map, revealing the complex relationships in intensely colored gradients.
He is part of the Axel Obiger Collective.
