Miriam Salamander studied Fine Art Printmaking at the University of Brighton, England and at Memorial University in Newfoundland, Canada. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally. Various artist residencies have taken her to places like Japan, Finland, and Hungary. She was a fellow of the European Center for Art Oberbayern and received grants from the Goethe-Institut. Since 2021, she has been studying sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in the class of Florian Pumhösl. Her works are represented in private and public collections, including the Bavarian State Painting Collections in Munich and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

In her artistic practice, Miriam Salamander works primarily with the medium of paper. She explores its unique ability to absorb traces of other materials into and onto its surface, as well as its potential to transform pictorial planes into three-dimensional forms. By focusing exclusively on the material “paper,” she draws attention to its inherent cultural-historical role as a carrier of (written) signs, maps, and information in general. Within her work, the element of the line emerges as a central means of legibility and orientation. In relation to the surface, it brings her exploration of spatiality itself into focus. The result of her engagement with signs, material, and the unfolding and dissolution of space is a body of work comprising both two-dimensional and sculptural pieces in a constantly evolving medium.
